Measuring your rooms to be renovated

Step 1

You need a tape measure and perhaps someone to help you hold the other end of the tape measure.

Sketch a plan of the room on a piece of paper. As you work around the room note the measurements to the sketch

Step 2

Start from a corner
Measure the overall room dimensions
Do each wall
Note the ceiling height
Measure the doorways

  • Taking note of the height and how far off the floor it is.
  • how far away from the nearest corner it is,
  • how wide it is including the architrave (frame or door jamb) –
  • also note whether the door is solid, a glass door, French glass, etc
  • Where this door leads to – i.e. bedrooms, the garage, to the dining room etc.

Do the same for any windows
Also for any openings and other structural items
Do this even if your intention is to knock down the wall or block up a doorway

Measure the centre to any services that are to remain in the same position – i.e. the centre of a sink waste to the nearest corner

Note as much information as possible
Some examples are:

  1. Floor is jarrah floor boards (note direction on plan) to remain
  2. Wall to be removed
  3. Bricked in wall oven to be removed
  4. Bricked in pantry to remain

Transfer this information onto the scale dot matrix page and the brief pages.

Also – if you have any questions at all it is best to give me a call or drop me an email and I will call you back at a convenient time to you.

Wall Ovens

Far from a thing of the past, wall ovens are easier on the knees and back when it comes to both cooking and cleaning, so consider a way to include one.
